Overview
ROAMES Extract is located in the tools section of the left-hand navigation menu in ROAMES World. This tool allows users to extract the data for a range of objects that are located within a selected area.
The following data types can be extracted using the tool:
- LiDAR Point Cloud
- Poles, Conductors, and Intrusions both Vegetation and Structure
- Digital Elevation Model
1. Select the Extract Area
There are four different tools you can use to make your spatial selection in ROAMES World as the Extract Area. Two are lines with a customisable width and the other two let you draw a polygon.
While selecting the extract area on the map using any of the available tools you can pan, tilt and zoom the map as normal.
Line
The line selection tool allows the user to draw a straight line and specify a distance either side of the line to include as the extraction area.
Add
- choose the Line select tool
- click once on the map to mark the start of the line
- click once the map to mark end of the line
- specify the width of the selection area using the Extract Line Width option. You can specify a width from 1m to 100m in 10cm increments. The default width is 10m.
Edit
- with the left mouse button click down and hold on either the start or end point of the line, the mouse cursor will change to a hand.
- move the point to its new location and release the mouse button.
Undo
Right mouse click anywhere on the map to undo the last point placement. Continue this process to remove multiple or all points.
Clear
Option 1 - click on any of the selection tools in the Extract Tool menu panel.
Option 2 - click on the trash can icon in the bottom right of the Extract Tool menu panel.
Polyline
A polyline is a line with with one or more additional points between the start and finish. These interim points can be moved so the line follows a path. This tool is useful when you want to follow a portion of the network that is not in a straight line.
Add
- choose the Polyline select tool
- click once on the map to mark the start of the line
- click on the map to mark any any points at which you would like the line to change directions
- click once the map to mark end of the line
- specify the width of the selection area using the Extract Line Width option. You can specify a width from 1m to 100m in 10cm increments. The default width is 10m.
Edit
- with the left mouse button click down and hold on any of the points of the polyline, the mouse cursor will change to a hand.
Rectangle
The rectangle tool allows the user to create a selection that is a polygon with four sides i.e. square or rectangle.
Add
- choose the Rectangle select tool
- with the left mouse button click once on the map to mark one corner of the rectangle
- repeat step 2 to mark the diagonally opposite corner of the rectangle - the rectangle shape will be created and displayed as a shaded area on the map
- there is a maximum selection area limit of 1000 square meters. If the area you have specified exceeds the limit it will be shaded in red and the button to submit the extract request will be disabled.
Edit
- with the left mouse button click down and hold on any of the points of the polyline, the mouse cursor will change to a hand.
Polygon
The Polygon tool allows the user to create a selection that is a polygon with many sides in any configuration.
Add
- choose the Polygon select tool
- with the left mouse button click once on the map to mark one vertices of the polygon
- repeat step 2 to mark the next and all vertices you require to define your extraction area.
- after creating 3 vertices the shape will automatically "close" and a shaded selection area will be displayed.
- move the point to its new location and release the mouse button.
- New points can only be added to the end of the points of the polygon, you cannot add points between existing vertices.
2. Choose the Data to Extract
LiDAR
|
After selecting the LiDAR data option you can then specify the point density and whether you would like the data to be compressed to .laz. You can specify a point density between 1 point in 3m to 1 point in 0.2m. |
Network
Poles and ConductorsChoosing either or both of these options simply includes all poles and conductors in the selection area. All data related to the selected poles and conductors is included in the extract. If any part of a pole or conductor is within the selection area it is included in the extract. Intrusions - Vegetation and StructuralFor each intrusion option you can specify a maximum intrusion distance. All intrusions within that distance from any selected object will be included in the extract. This includes intrusions that are outside the selection area because they relate to an object that extends beyond the selection area. The maximum intrusion distance can be set from 1m to 10m in 1m increments. |
DEM
|
The Digital Elevation Model provides a mesh of the bare ground topographic surface of the Earth excluding trees, buildings, and any other surface objects for the selection area. The DEM is provided as a triangulated irregular network. After selection the option to include the DEM in the extract you will be asked to specify a resolution ranging from 1 to 100 pixels per meter. The default resolution is 20 pixels per meter. |
3. Choose the Coordinate Reference System
|
Two coordinate reference systems (CRS) are currently supported:
Choose the CRS you require from the list. The default is MGA94/AHD |
4. Submit the Extract Request
|
Once you are happy with your selection area and the extract options simply click on the download button in the bottom right of the Extract Tool menu panel. Depending on the size and options chosen the extract can take a few moments. Once its is complete a notification will popup in the bottom right of your browser and the file download screen will be displayed allowing you to rename the file and choose the location to which you'd like it saved. The default file location is your system's download folder. A single zip file will be downloaded containing files for each of the data types extracted:
